Bundle up and get going --adventures and a whole new year are in front of you! If you’re looking for a healthy and refreshing w.ay to kick off 2023, how about enjoying the great outdoors with a “first day hike" (or walk if that's more your speed.)
Hundreds of free, guided hikes will be organized in all 50 states on New Year's Day for a "first day hike," but just because DC hasn't gained that elusive statehood stamp doesn't mean you have to miss out. Where there's a will, there's a way and there are plenty of great places to get out and enjoy a peaceful winter walk. Of course, there's always Rock Creek Park, but let us introduce you to nine less obvious, but still awesome, places.

It's not too late to make plans for ringing in 2023. While big parties can be fun, there are more ways to celebrate that don't include expensive tickets or dressing up in bow ties and Spanx. Check out our curated suggestions for how to say good-bye to 2022 and hello to the new year!
One of our favorite things about the holiday season is visiting holiday markets to support local small businesses and makers. Holiday markets in DC abound and are a fun and festive way to shop for local gifts while celebrating the Christmas season.
There are so many holiday markets out there, where do you even start? The Downtown Holiday Market is the most well-known, but there are plenty of others to explore. From German-themed markets to international gifts, we've compiled a comprehensive list to jump start your holiday shopping. Happy gifting! 'Tis the season for winter fun and festive events that celebrate the holiday season! The District is spectacular any time of the year, but it is especially magical in the winter because of all the Christmas and holiday activities.
From ice skating to igloos, holiday markets to outdoor lighted animations, sing-alongs and spectacular seasonal performances, we've gathered some of the best and most unexpected ways to experience the holiday season in DC. November brings a flurry of activity. Whether you want to enjoy the beautiful fall weather or are already looking for Christmasy things to do, there’s something for everyone to do this month. Celebrate Dia de los Muertos, experience eating dinner in the dark, sip seasonal beers, hop aboard a feminist bus tour, get down at a special edition of Club Quarantine live and sooo much more!
Read on for all the unexpected events you need to add to your November calendar. Can you feel it? There's a definite chill in the air and autumnal flavors are making an appearance on coffee shop and bakery menus. It can only mean one thing: it's officially fall ya'll!
We've curated some of the best ways to make the most of the season:
How you like them apples? Put down the daiquiri and step away from the rosé. With summer in the rearview, our sipping sights are set on pumpkin beer, hot toddies and the most beloved fall libation of all, hard cider.
Cider has become popular in DC with several cideries springing up in recent years offering refreshing and unique flavors. Here's what you can expect to find at the four locations in the city when you're ready for a hard cider taste test. Did someone say cider doughnuts? Get ready for this fall tradition with corn mazes, hayrides and more! You can feel it in the air . . . fall is almost here!
It's absolutely my favorite season! I LOVE the changing leaves, the return of pumpkin spice everything and the falling temperatures. I'm sooo over DC’s heat and humidity. I also have very fond memories of visiting my godfather in Michigan and picking pumpkins and crisp, delicious apples at a neighboring farm. Luckily, you don’t have to go all the way to Michigan to experience this fabulous fall tradition. You can find plenty of pumpkins and apples at the always incredible Eastern Market or one of the many local farmers markets, but there are many legit farms within driving distance where you can pick your own pumpkins and apples for a real-deal farm experience. Whether you're looking for a family-friendly experience with hayrides and other bells and whistles, or a no frills farm visit, you'll find the perfect one to visit from the six we've scouted. Did we forget your favorite? Let us know! Fall is a great time to be in DC!
It brings with it ample opportunities for outdoor activities, from hikes and cidery visits to leaf peeping. Fall concerts return, and so does spooky season: a time for all things creepy, fun, and pumpkin-flavored. So, from a raucous, German-themed beer fest to a international culinary battle and a day-long music festival on the historic grounds of Walter Reed Hospital, here are some of the most fun things to do in DC this fall. Is it just us or did this summer just fly by?! The trees are already changing colors but that doesn't mean the good times are coming to an end.
Say good-bye to DC's sweltering heat and humidity and hello to cooler temperatures in which to take advantage of the abundance fall festivals and outdoor events taking place all over the District. Here are some of this month's highlights: Capital Bop's NEXTfest, Adams Morgan Day, H Street Festival, NSO in Your Neighborhood, Opera in the Outfield, DC Fiesta, and so much more. So grab your favorite pumpkin spice bev of choice and start exploring! |
