Words, words, glorious words! Music. TV and movies. Social media. Talking with friends. Words are all around us every day, in one form or another. But we don’t really ever stop and think about the origin of the words and language we use, do we?
The newly opened Planet Word museum aims to change that. The interactive museum fills three floors of the historic Franklin School with games, touch screens and video screens to help visitors explore the origins and evolution of languages, and to play with words by reading, singing and speaking. In this museum-saturated city, Planet Word delivers something new. Stay and wander, and wear a mask! We're in that seasonal sweet spot where it's nice enough to spend time outside and anticipate the coming wintertime activities--it's the best of both worlds!
November is stuffed with indoor and outdoor things to do for adults and kiddos, from dinosaurs roaring into RFK Stadium to Insta-worthy apres ski events, Black-owned restaurant week, and a Christmas bar popping up in Adams Morgan, and more! Your Ultimate Guide to Coping with Election Day Anxiety10/30/2020 This has been a year like no other, and by all accounts, it will be an election night like no other. But first things first, you've got to make sure to VOTE on Election Day if you haven't already completed early voting or mailed in your ballot. It's the one thing you can control right now.
For some, the historic event is going to be an irresistible chance to scroll through Twitter, light up group chats and leave the news humming in the background on a TV. But for others, it’s the perfect opportunity to practice some self-care instead of stressing out for hours, or maybe even days. If you're part of the "wake me when it's over" crowd, we've compiled some suggestions that can hopefully help distract you from Election Day (or beyond) anxiety. Fun and (mostly!) free ideas to get you out and about! We love DC, but to be honest, our commitment is tested during the heat and humidity of its infamous summers, ugh. So we rejoice when temperatures start to dip and a cup of PSL becomes a standard accessory.
There's always a lot to do in the District and it's even better in the fall! From ghosts and ghouls, reopened museums, pop-up wineries and colorful murals, we've rounded up some of the best things to do right now, whether you're a local or just visiting. If you're sick of just about everything on Netflix, you're in luck. DC’s museums, gardens, art galleries and cultural institutions are starting to re-open! Be aware--many places are requiring visitors to reserve timed-entry passes to aid social distancing measures, and masks are always a must. But that's to be expected in this "new normal."
