Calories don't count for a historic event, right?

We've been comforting eating our way through the 2020 election and have no intentions of stopping in these final days until the main event--Inauguration Day. With emotions running so high, you're going to need some delicious food to binge eat and comfort you during this historical transition day. Luckily, DC's restaurants have come through with food and drink specials that honor soon-to-be-sworn-in President Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, America's first female vice president.

If you're celebrating in your living room on Wednesday, local bars and restaurants have cooked up commemorative dishes, beers and cocktails to help make your sofa feel more festive, no matter how far you are from the Capitol. Here are few inauguration-themed offerings to whet your appetite.
Due to road closures and heightened security in the district, deliveries may be delayed in the coming days. Order your food as early as possible and have patience, everyone is doing their best in these trying times.

DC's cause-focused eatery is debuting its new "Madame VP Heritage Bowl." The daughter of immigrants, the bowl blends Jamaica and India flavors of coconut-milk curried chicken, chickpeas, potatoes, pineapples, plantains & a hint of spicy peppers, served over turmeric rice and baby spinach.  Our mouth is watering, what about you?
Jubilee Ice Cream

Fun fact about our incoming President: He's an acknowledged ice addict! Jubilee Ice Cream is getting in on the inauguration action with new flavors celebrating both Joe Biden and foodie Kamala Harris. They're rolling out Vanilla Chocolate Chip after his Vanilla Chocolate Chip and “Cuppa Joe” features beans roasted at D.C.-based Zeke’s Coffee. In a nod to Harris' Indian heritage, "Cardamom Amaretto" is a kulfi , a traditional South Asian, sort of ice milk, ice cream-like dessert that has cardamom flavors and "Rose’ Mimosa" has added notes of amaretto and almonds to give it a California twist.

Ice Cream Jubilee has take-home pints (available until Jan 22) and is hosting tasting parties every weekend until Jan 24 with all four flavors.
Tickets are $22 for a sampling of mini scoops plus a pint for the road. A portion of proceeds will be donated to No Kid Hungry, a nonprofit that works to offer free meals for kids in need.
Fight Club

Started in Wilmington, DE, Capriotti’s sub shop is one of Biden's favorites, particularly their best-selling Thanksgiving sub, filled with turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce. Since he'll be too busy with the COVID response and a host of other issues during his first 100 days to dash over to Rosslyn (the nearest Capriotti's location) to get his fix, sandwich-centric Fight Club pop-up at Beuchert’s Saloon unveiled its own version of the Capriotti’s classic, made with sausage stuffing and potato mayo. It’s back on the Capitol Hill restaurant’s menu through inauguration ($15). And in a nod to last year’s virtual tuna melt faceoff between Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-Va.) and vice president-elect Kamala D. Harris, Fight Club has also added the VP Melt, a sandwich containing tuna salad, cheese and a hard boiled egg ($15).

It offers a special home brunch for two with pastries, coffee or espresso drinks and a choice of entrees, such as chorizo, egg and cheese breakfast taquitos or shakshuka with toasted focaccia ($46 for two people; $64 with a bottle of prosecco).

How pretty is this?? Republic Restoratives’ limited-edition bottles of Purpose Rye whiskey, etched with the words “I’m Speaking” as a tribute to the VP-elect, are back in stock and available for local delivery or pickup at the Ivy City distillery ($79).

The DC-based brewery has brewed up two new beers in honor of the incoming President and VP Elect. The "Amtrak Joe's Pilsner" (described as a light and crisp beer) and the "Madam Veep's IPA" (a pale ale with citrus flavor). Both were available for preorder online in mixed six-packs, 12-packs or 24-packs, starting at $16.99, although 270 cases have already sold out. The beer will be available for pickup at Atlas Brew Works’ Half Street Brewery and Tap Room in Navy Yard starting Jan. 16.
Capo Italian Deli

The deli that made a splash with their ever-popular Fauci Pouchy is back with the "Biden Bubbly" in honor of the inauguration. Each bottle is designed with a portrait of Harris and Biden holding hands. Orders will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limited number of bottles available. Specialty packs featuring Fauci Pouchys (which we totally recommend!) and Biden Bubbly will also be offered in the week leading up to the inauguration. Fans of Capo's existing lineup of politically-themed cocktails can rest easy; their favorites are still in the mix. Currently, Capo is offering the original Fauci Pouchy, the Pina Kamala and Joe Imbiben.
