Last chance to see Shakespeare Theatre Company's play Blindness, a immersive sound and light installation with the nightmarish premise of a pandemic that causes blindness. The actor-less installation is a a wholly unique experience! Ends July 3 BABY, YOU'RE A FIREWORK. Celebrate the Fourth of July with a 17-minute fireworks display at the Lincoln Memorial. Before the fireworks, consider visiting the National Mall and seeing some of the most notable sites and landmarks in the United States by moonlight. July 4, starting at 9:09pm STAR SPANGLED PARADES. In addition to DC's annual fireworks display, celebrate the summer of freedom at area parades. The annual Capitol Hill Community 4th of July Parade on Barracks Row begins at 10 a.m. on July 4. The Palisades Community Association also plans to resume its annual Fourth of July parade. It starts at noon on July 4 at noon from the corner of Whitehaven Parkway and MacArthur Blvd. NW and ends at the Palisades Rec Center. July 4, times vary SUMMER IN THE PARK. Join Rock Creek Park and Rock Creek Conservancy for Thursday evening Summer in the Parks events near the Carter Barron Amphitheater Box Office through August. Enjoy food trucks, music from DJ Lance Reynolds, and family-friendly themed activities each night to celebrate our urban oasis. Ongoing thru Aug 14 GRAFFITI EVOLUTION. Head to the MLK Jr Library downtown to see "AeroSouls," a free exhibit exploring the connection between the days of illegal graffiti in DC and today's murals. curated by DC street art master Corey Stowers. June 10 - July 22 SUMMER FESTIVALS AT THE REACH. It's festival season and the REACH at Kennedy Center is getting in on the act with a series of Millennium Stage mini festivals. Each week, enjoy different themed entertainmenr featuring films, live performances, arts vendors, dance, and yoga lessons. National Theater for the Deaf, Smithsonian Asian American Center, Creative Nomads, SAMASAMA, D.C. Legendary Musicians, Step Afrika!, members of the Drag community, and more, are among the scheduled performers. Oh, did we mention it's all free?! Thursdays - Saturdays, now thru October 2 KEEP ON GLOWING. If you missed Spring GLOW, here's your second chance! Get your Summer GLOW, as three new art works transform several of Georgetown’s alleys. Free. Mid-July thru September 26 CONGRESS HEIGHTS CONCERTS. Big live concerts are returning to DC this summer (yay!). The Entertainment & Sports Arena, the venue in Congress Heights that hosts Washington Mystics games is hosting a four-day summer concert series. The lineup includes pedal steel guitarist Robert Randolph, legendary DC GoGo band Junkyard Band; Popular local duo Thievery Corporation; and Puerto Rican-Dominican Latin-pop singer Jason Cerda. July 22 thru July 25 FRIDAY NIGHT BOOGIE. The free Capitol Riverfront Friday Night Concert Series is back for its 11th Season! Head to Yards Park every Friday night to relax and enjoy the river view, fantastic bands, food and beverage, and a large variety of great restaurants within a few minutes walk from the park. Starts July 9 at 7 pm HAIL TO THE CHIEF. Every third Wednesday of the month from June to August, catch the U.S. Marine Band playing in Yards Park while you picnic and take in the views of the Anacostia River. Established by an Act of Congress in 1798, the United States Marine Band is America’s oldest continuously active professional musical organization. SPOKEN WORD. Weaving together poetry, storytelling, hip hop, and verse, HOMEGROWN is an original performance piece that celebrates local spoken word artists and the resilience of DC, its people, and our communities. July 9 - 11 LOC OUTDOOR MOVIES. Add another place to the list of where you can catch some outdoor films this summer: the Library of Congress announced its fourth annual Summer Movies on the Lawn film festival. There will be a series of five movies shown on Thursday evenings at sundown. Titles include Toy Story, Shrek, Jurassic Park and a Sound of Music sing-along. July 8 thru August 5 MOVIES AT THE STONE. Combine visiting one of DC's iconic memorials with outdoor movie viewing with the summer movie series, Movies at the Stone, at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial is the only one at a DC monument. Upcoming flicks: The Princess and the Frog and Black Panther. July 15 at pm HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ALEXANDRIA. Celebrate the 270th birthday of the City of Alexandria with a night of live entertainment, food and drinks, a cannon salute and a grand fireworks finale. July 10, starting at 7 pm BOOKS GALORE. Shop thousands of gently used books, CDs and DVDs, all on sale for $6 or less, at Downtown DC’s outdoor, pop-up bookstore at Wilson Plaza. Books provided by Carpe Librum, a local used bookstore, benefitting nonprofit Turning the Page. Free. July 15, 10am - 5pm COCKTAIL GARDEN. Cheers to King & Rye's pop-up Cocktail Garden in their expansive courtyard. The seasonal experience features lounge areas, intimate dining spaces, fire pits and a special menu of stellar seasonal cocktails throughout the summer. Reservations required. Ongoing KREEGER JAZZ SATURDAYS. Chill out Saturdays with live jazz at Kreeger Museum's new series of intimate, outdoor concerts on their lovely Sculpture Terrace. If you've never visited this private, contemporary art museum before, this is the perfect reason to go! July 17, 3:30 – 4:15pm BBQ COOKING DEMO. The African American History Museum hosts Chef Omar Tate for "How Much for One Rib?," a virtual cooking demonstration using barbecue ribs as the focus for a discussion about gathering and culinary traditions in the Black community. Chef Omar will lead participants through the preparation of dishes included in a block-party inspired meal kit. July 24, 12:30pm SO FAR SUMMER SHOWS. You need blind faith when getting a ticket to one of these shows since the artist performing is kept secret until they hit the stage. The intimate shows are held at unique venues, like someone's house, making it a great way to discover a new part of town, and possibly your new favorite musician, as you throw down a blanket and settle in for some songs from a room.Multiple dates BUILDING MUSEUM YOGA. Unwind with an all skills level yoga session with Beth A. Wolfe Yoga among the towering columns and amazing architecture at the National Building Museum. July 11 and 25 GET TO KNOW YOUR NEIGHBOR. Head to Union Market to explore a group show exploring the relationships we have with one another, inspired by the ancient command to “love thy neighbor as thyself.” The exhibit showcases the work of four artists: David Ibata, Craig Kraft, Rhema Jordan Labbe, and Serli Lala. Free. Ongoing thru July 11 DC SUMMER HOUSE. No one wants to work inside when the sun is shining. Summer House to the rescue! The outdoor pop-up outdoor activation at National Landing is designed for coworking and events, and is IG-ready with a 90s summer vibe. During the day, take advantage of the free WiFi and cold brew and at night, Summer House will host events like DJ happy hours and yoga-and-cocktails workouts. Ongoing through the end of summer IT"S A HEIST. A high-end night club at Kennedy Center? Yep! Heist Nightclub is transforming the rooftop at the performing arts venue into a after-hours club with 60 VIP tables and cabanas, a live DJ and surprise, special performances. The event will run for 8-weeks. Reservations will go live every Tuesday at 10 AM. Ongoing; Saturdays thru Aug 14 DRAG QUEEN STORY TIME. Bring a chair or blanket to Unity Park in Adams Morgan for Drag Queen Storytime. Hosted in partnership with the Adams Morgan Partnership BID, The Line Hotel, and DC Public Library, the library will be on hand with additional books, information about local libraries, their famous “book bike” and more! Free. July 11 at 11am CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN. Get out on the water with Float DC at the Wharf for an unique experience being the captain of your own electric boat.
