Two days! Just two more days until Joe Biden will be sworn in as the 46th president of the United States. The National Mall is closed and DC is practically on lock down for security reasons, but that doesn’t make the occasion any less a cause for celebration.

We're curated a mix of virtual and IRL things to do, and local food and drink specials for you to throw the best at-home inauguration party ever, so don your best red, white, and blue loungewear and nestle up on the couch and get ready to celebrate!
WHAT TO DO:
  • ICYMI: The Biden's dog Major, a German Shepherd who will be the first rescue dog residing at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. He was adopted in 2018 by Biden and his wife Dr. Jill Biden from the Delaware Humane Association. Singer Josh Groban helped welcome President-elect Joe Biden's dog, Major, to the White House by performing at his "indoguration" this past Sunday.
  • Jan 19: The Biden-Harris Inauguration Committee invites cities and towns across the country to join D.C. in illuminating buildings and ringing church bells on Tues, Jan 19 at 5:30 p.m. ET in a national moment of unity and remembrance for those lost to COVID-19.
  • Until Jan 21: Have your political anxieties been bubbling up your emotions this week? Do you have a burning desire to let it all out? Do you wish you had an outlet to just let loose? Fear not, because such an outlet exists — for a limited time. Just Scream is a phone service that lets you do exactly that: just scream. Call +1-561-567-8431, wait for the beep, and scream (or sing, or rant) your heart out.
  • Various: From author talks to political books and a conversation with Jeb Bartlett (actor Martin Sheen, check out our curated list of inauguration-themed events happening online and in-person leading up to Biden's swearing in.
  • Ongoing: Take WTOP’s inauguration trivia quiz and you might learn something about how U.S. presidents have been sworn in over the years. You also might wonder how some of these guys got elected president in the first place.
WHAT TO EAT/DRINK:
  • With emotions running so high, you're going to need some delicious food to binge eat and comfort you during this historical transition day. Luckily, DC's restaurants have come through with food and drink specials that honor soon-to-be-sworn-in President Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, America's first female vice president.
WHAT TO LISTEN TO:
  • Groove along to the official Joe Biden and Kamala Harris inauguration playlist. The eclectic 46-track roster also includes Beyoncé, Stevie Wonder, Major Lazer and Tame Impala. According to a statement from the Biden/Harris team, the playlist "represents the diversity of our nation, and our strength and resilience as we look forward to new leadership and a new era in America." The playlist also includes the song "That's Love," an awesome track from DC musician Oddisee.
  • On the flip side, the Impeachment 2: Electric Boogaloo playlist, is the playlist Lloyd Dobler would be playing on his boombox outside the White House  if he was a Biden supporter. Compiled by local musician Rex, tracks include NSYNCs "Bye, Bye, Bye;" Lizzo's "Truth Hurts;" Public Enemy's "Fight the Power" and "Move Bitch" by Ludacris, Mystical and others. It's the playlist we didn't know we needed but can't wait now to turn up past 11.
